New shownotes and audio link here.

All aboard for Camp Laurence!

Chapter 12--whoo hoo!

Rosie the dog is back, but still depressed (Though Thing 1 is Happy!)
while I am frazzled like a snozzcumber. I belatedly thank Erin and also Judith for the everso bitchen' book. I try to escape the dreaded viral malaise that has struck my children (HA!), mourn Malabrigo's loss, and hand out a tasty recipe!
And
APOLOGIES to Brenda Dayne...who hosts CAST-ON!...For the love of Pete...THIS is how the week has gone!

BREAD NOTE: ONLY two TBSP of milk, mixed with 1/2 tsp of baking soda. Then 1 hour at 350° or less for muffins.
Thanks for the headsup!

Thank you for the recipe, I'm really looking forward to trying it out. Can you clarify something for me? You say to add 2 teaspoons of sweet milk, and then you say to mix 2 tablespoons of milk with baking soda and add that.

Is this one lot of milk (and if so how much) or two?

  2. Glad the pooch is back, labs are notorious diggers, and one way to cope with this ( & prevent escapes!) is to give the pooch its own sand pit to dig in, and only allow the pooch to dig there. Its amazing what will pset labs though. we moved house 2 years ago to a newbuild 500 yards from our old house. Our lab had visited the house many many times during construction, but she was so distressed and confused when we moved in. She was due a check up at the vets at the time, so while she was being checked over I mentioned her weird behaviour when we moved, & our lovely vet said that they dog didn't know what was going on and was disoriented. After a week she was ok. Persevere with Rosie, lots of attention, lots of saying her name & she will settle.

ps what is a stick of butter?

  3. LOL
The things that don't translate! WOW!
It's like "marks" on UK ovens!
Here a stick of butter is 1/2 a cup...but I'm running to see how many grams it is...
    113.4g, or 4 oz.
Phew. That'll remind me I have an international audience, eh?
    :D

  4. I am new to the magical world of podcasts, and even newer to blogs, and I just wanted to say that I thoroughly enjoy your show!! You are so pleasant to listen to, intelligent, and I love hearing your listeners read the stories! Thanks so much for doing the show.

    Cheers,
    Leanne

  5. I was listening to the podcast in my car, and couldn't write down the recipe. Could you (please, pretty please) put it in the show notes?

I have been enjoying your podcast immensely, even though I didn't think I would like Little Women, which I read far too many decades ago. Thank you for getting me to "read" or revisit some of the classics. I wish you had been my high school English teacher. (Well, a clone of Heather in an earlier generation.)

My Dear One and I read to eachother all the time, it's a great way to spend time and entertain one another during our chore and transportation times. Currently we're reading "The Land Remembers" which was written by his late granduncle about his family. This is a first read for both of us, so it should be interesting!
Have fun reading the Skeleton Key!

Catchup moment: since you seem to want to try whole wheat banana bread, I would suggest trying whole wheat pastry flour to get a better effect than all-purpose whole wheat flour. Quick breads like banana bread prefer the flours with LESS gluten like pastry flour, precisely the opposite of bread flour, which has MORE gluten.

  8. Finally we managed to neglect a banana long enough to make it bread-worthy, and I mixed up the recipe last night. Yum! I used whole wheat flour because that's what I keep in the house -- I think that the next time I make this, I'll try to have two bananas, to give the banana flavor more of a chance against the whole wheat flavor. Thanks, Heather!
