Episode Fifty-six: The Very Best Thing

Last night my husband played a card game that we bought on our honeymoon. We bought it because it can be played as a 2 person game, and the art is fantastic. It's called "Guillotine," and it's put out by Wizards of the Coast. It is so fabulous! The players are executioners, and you try to collect the heads of the nobles that are worth the most points by using your action cards to rearrange the line of people waiting to be executed. The points range from 5 points for Marie Antoinette and Louis XVI to 1 point for the Piss Boy and the Royal Cartographer. There are also heads worth negative points, such as the Martyr or the Hero of the People. The actions are cleverly written and, like I said, the art is great. ReplyDeleteI suppose it says something about my husband and me that we bought this game and played it throughout our honeymoon. We had a blast. Anyway, it seemed relevant to where A Tale of Two Cities is going.

ReplyDeleteThank you, thank you, thank you for Tale of Two Cities! I personally LOVE Dickens! I had fabulous professor in college who was a Dickens fan and his enthusiasm spread to me, but my real love didn't begin until my family started the tradition of reading "A Christmas Carol" every holiday season. I agree with you that Dickens had a solid grasp on characterization and his use of subtle puns is sublime! These last two chapters were a wonderful listen.
